The Miami University RedHawks men’s basketball team lost their final regular season game of the 2023-24 season to the Ohio University Bobcats 72-59.

The game started out great for Miami, who jumped out to an early 27-14 lead late in the first half, before the Bobcats answered with 12 unanswered points to close the lead to one going into halftime.

The second half was all Ohio, outscoring the RedHawks 46-32 en route to victory.

Leading the charge offensively for the RedHawks was senior center Anderson Mirambeaux with 13 points, while first-year guard Eian Elmer poured in 12.

For the Bobcats, sophomore forward Aidan Hadaway and senior guard Shereef Mitchell both scored 20 points to lead Ohio to the win. Contributing on the defensive end were sophomore guard Ajay Sheldon and senior guard Jaylin Hunter with five and four steals respectively.

Turnovers proved to be the deciding factor in the game, with Miami turning the ball over 18 times to the Bobcats 11.

With this loss, the RedHawks finished the regular season with a 15-16 record overall (9-9 in MAC play), good for seventh in the conference. They will take on the University of Akron Zips in the opening round of the MAC tournament on Thursday, March 14.

Game one of the tournament will tip off at 11 a.m. on the same day, with the No. 1 University of Toledo Rockets taking on the No. 8 Kent State University Golden Flashes. Game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game 1, as the No. 4 Central Michigan University Chippewas will battle the No. 5 Bowling Green State University Falcons.

The RedHawks’ game will take place 30 minutes after game two finishes. After that game concludes, the No. 3  Bobcats will face the No. 6 Western Michigan University Broncos to finish the day. If Miami wins, they will take on the winner of the Bobcats and Broncos.

Miami’s season was one of many ups and downs, with big wins against Akron and Central Michigan, but also tough losses against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. However, the future is sure to be filled with brighter days, especially considering the youth of this year's team.

If Miami is able to keep their core freshmen together, the 15-win season this year will surely be improved over the next couple of seasons.
